Mrs. Bakk's Class

Hi there.  I am Mrs. Bakk.  I am the k-4th grade T.E.A.M. teacher here at St. Stephen's.  This is my fourth year teaching (in general and at St. Stephen's).  I graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in May of 2008 with my Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a specialization in Early Childhood Education.  I graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in the fall of 2010 with my Master's in k-6 Mild/Moderate Special Education.  And, now, I am in the process of obtaining my Master's degree in Pre-K-12 grade reading instruction.  Needless to say, I really enjoy school.

I was born and raised in Omaha.  I went to Norris Elementary, Millard Central Middle School and then Millard South High School.  I can't imagine living anywhere else.  I have 4 older brothers- Dave, Jim, Rich and Chris.  I have 12 nieces and nephews- family get-togethers tend to be quite the event!  My husband's name is Tyler and we have four children.  My oldest is Dominic.  He is a second grader here at St. Stephen's and just loves going to school.  My second is Jesse, he is six years old and is going to kindergarten this year.  Our daughter, Victoria, turned 3 in May.  Being our only girl, she has become quite spoiled, especially by her big brothers.  As if they weren't enough for our family ;o) God decided to bless us with a little boy who was born on October 7th!  Aiden "AJ" James is the newest Bakk!

We also have a couple furry children- Lewey is a 3 1/2 year old, newfoundland mix and Beavis is a 17 year old, orange striped tabby.

Why did I decide to become a teacher?

Well, I originally attended UNO to become an artist and possibly an art teacher.  I really enjoyed working with my hands and creating beautiful work.  During my second year of college, I came to realize that I enjoyed the teaching aspect of art more than actually creating art.  My family has always held a great deal of respect for teachers; it seemed like a noble profession to me.  I get to come to an inviting building everyday and work with people that feel more like family than colleagues and students, what's not to love?  I have also stated that I enjoy school.  Not only do I enjoy school, but I love to learn.  Reading is a passion of mine, so it thrills me to no end that I get to share my love of reading and learning with my students.
