The Sounds and Symbols chart contains all the sounds in the English language.  This comprises about 85% of our words, the other 15% are made up of "red words" (words that are exceptions to the rule).  Below, you will find a blank second grade Sounds and Symbols chart and a completed one.  These are the sounds we expect the second graders to know by the end of second grade.  Periodically, have your child fill out what they can remember on their SS chart.  Then help them to fill in the parts that they do not remember. 

 Below, you will find the list of red words for second grade.  The way we learn and remember red words is to tap your arm for each letter and then slide your hand down your arm while saying the word.  You can have your child demonstrate this strategy for you.
